1) Provide Canadian and US GAAP advice and counsel
on complex external financial reporting and accounting matters
2) Develop, communicate, implement, and co-ordinate the institution’s accounting
policies
3) Review Business opportunities and provide accounting advice
4) Monitor and develop Canadian and U.S. accounting standards and assist in
their implementation
5) Assist with the update and maintenance of Corporate Accounting Policies
Manual
6) Provide assistance in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial
reports
7) Work on special projects due diligence, US GAAP reconciliation
8) Supervise staff within the department 2nd in Command for this division
ALLOCATION OF TIME
1) Provide advisory services to business units and Strategic Initiatives on
business Issues - 20%
2) Maintain the institution’s Corporate Accounting Policies Manual - 20%
3) Monitor accounting standards and responding to changes that impact the
institution - 25%
4) Prepare financial reports - 20%
5) Work on special projects - 5%
6) Plan and manage - 10%
ADVICE AND COUNSEL ON FINANCIAL MATTERS
1) Provide advice and counsel on financial and reporting matters to all areas of
the institutions, including subsidiaries, field units and departments
2) Participate in the resolution of problems or response to questions with
respect to accepted accounting principles and new or unusual accounting
situations
3) Work with rest of Accounting Advisory Services team and business partners in
resolving accounting issues
ACCOUNTING POLICIES
1) Monitor Canadian and U.S. developments in accounting/regulatory reporting and
communicating/assisting in implementing those developments to effected parties
throughout the institution
2) Draft formal responses to proposals by standard-setting bodies such as the
CICA, FASB and OSFI
3) Assist in co-ordinating the implementation of new accounting standards
4) Update the institution’s Corporate Accounting Policies Manual
U.S. ACCOUNTING STANDARDS
1) Provide technical advice and assistance with respect to the implementation of
financial reporting in accordance with the U.S. accounting standards
FINANCIAL REPORTING
1) Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial reports to
management and shareholders
TRAINING
1) Assist team members with complex issues
2) Co-ordinate seminars to keep accounting staff aware of recent accounting
developments
SPECIAL PROJECTS
1) Oversee or assist in special projects as assigned by the Department Executive
Requirements
1) Canadian CA a must (Ideally CA with CPA with
MBA)
