About our client
Our client is a specialist asset manager focused on property, power and other infrastructure assets. The company has over US$70 billion assets under management. The company is co-listed on the New York and Toronto Stock Exchanges.
Position Location
Manager – Accounting and Reporting Toronto
Salary
$70K - $80K
Responsibilities
1) Assist with compilation of information required by consultants for filing Canadian and US tax returns as well as other fundraising activities
2) Ensure all material transactions are recorded as intended by the asset management team with evidence of their approval
3) Assist with transactions, purchase, sale, refinancing etc.
4) Prepare/review closing statements
5) Co-ordinate with the accounting team of other entities to ensure that the due to/due from accounts of these companies are reconciled with the funds on a monthly basis
6) Assist accounting teams of properties with their questions relating to any differences in the contribution/distribution accounts
7) Prepare legal entity financial statements for all entities for tax, lender reporting or any other purposes
8) Assist with budget and reforecast processes
9) Review and analyze property reports and provide highlights and commentary to management
10) Manage aspects of fund administration such as capital calls, distribution notices, etc.
11) Assist external consultants with corporate tax related issues and filings
12) Liaise with State and Federal Tax Departments in resolving any tax issues
13) Handle administration of cross border transfer pricing agreements
14) Build relationships and liaise with bankers, lenders and treasury to facilitate day-to-day banking
15) Handle all aspects of reporting such as management reporting, investor reporting, lender reporting, etc.
16) Assist with ensuring whether proper documentation is being maintained for all fund transactions
17) Oversee property and fund-level internal, external and SOX audits
18) Monitor and report on internal controls
19) Develop and maintain internal control documentation
20) Assist with fund-level and property-level budgets
21) Prepare information for tax reporting and planning, including related accounting transfers entry
22) Assist in new deal activity due diligence
23) Ensure corporate secretarial requirements for each legal entity is maintained
24) Provide guidance/directions to 3rd party property management companies on accounting policies
25) Initial accounting set up of property acquisitions, including property-level debt
26) Oversee accounting for disposition of assets
27) Handle other projects and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
1) Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or CPA certification or equivalent preferred
2) At least 4 years of relevant experience in a managerial role in real estate industry
3) Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of other Microsoft office tools
4) Good knowledge of and work experience with real estate accounting and fund accounting
5) Excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills
6) Strong written and verbal communication skills
7) Ability to work independently without direct supervision as well as work with a team
8) Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and be proactive, both with respect to managing workload and own professional development
9) Ability to handle large volume of work
10) Good organizational skills with an ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
