| Responsibilities |
1) Review complex business issues 2) Provide Canadian, US, and International accounting and financial-reporting advice to company’s internal partners 2) Respond to questions and assist with resolving problems arising from the application of GAAP 3) Monitor developments in Canadian and US accounting standards and financial regulatory requirements 4) Assist with communicating and implementing new accounting standards and financial reporting regulatory developments across the company’s businesses 5) Evaluate proposals issued by standard-setting bodies such as the CICA, FASB, IASB, and OSFI 6) Draft responses from the company’s perspective, considering the implications on its business and financial reporting, and on the financial services sector in general 6) Assist with updating and maintaining the company’s Corporate Accounting Policies Manual 7) Communicate new and proposed policy along with reporting the developments and their impact on company to business finance and other partners 8) Participate in various educational initiatives (seminars, policy papers, etc.) prepared for other company’s colleagues 9) Cross train and coach colleagues within the Accounting Policy Group 10) Manage or participate in special projects (as needed) |
| Requirements |
1) CA designation 2) Minimum 3 – 5 years of work experience in a public accounting firm 3) At least 2 years of experience working in an accounting policy position (ideally with another financial services organization) 3) In-depth knowledge of Canadian GAAP 4) Experience in US GAAP or IFRS 4) Knowledge of financial regulatory requirements and public company reporting 5) Ability to exercise and develop professional judgment in assessing risks of business transactions and interpretation of accounting pronouncements 5) Ability to make decisions despite uncertainties and unknowns 6) Analytical thinker with an aptitude to conceptualize issues 7) Ability to grasp technical details and determine the macro-level issues 8) Self-starter, motivated, achievement and excellence driven 9) Experience with and aptitude for managing or mentoring staff 10) Team player with the ability to persuade and influence 11) Ability to work alone, with little direction, and in a collegial, respectful manner with other people and in project teams 12) Excellent organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities (adaptable to ever-changing workload and priorities) 13) Strong oral and written communication skills 14) Good listener and quick learner |
