| Responsibilities |
1) Maintain current knowledge of Canadian, US, and international accounting developments 2) Provide accounting advice on business transactions 3) Review complex business issues 4) Provide Canadian, US, and international accounting and financial reporting advice to company’s internal partners 5) Respond to questions and assist with resolving problems arising from the application of GAAP 6) Monitor developments in Canadian and US accounting standards as well as financial regulatory requirements 7) Assist with communicating and implementing new accounting standards and financial reporting regulatory developments across the company’s businesses 8) Evaluate proposals issued by standard-setting bodies such as the CICA, FASB, IASB, and OSFI 9) Draft responses from the company’s perspective, considering the implications on business and financial reporting as well as on the financial services sector (in general) 10) Assist with updating and maintaining the company’s Corporate Accounting Policies Manual 11) Handle financial reporting 12) Assist with preparing and coordinating the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements as well as other reports 13) Handle training and education 14) Communicate new and proposed policy as well as reporting developments and their impact on company to business finance and other partners 15) Participate in various educational initiatives (seminars, policy papers, etc.) prepared for other company’s colleagues 16) Train and coach colleagues within the Accounting Policy Group 17) Oversee special projects 18) Manage or participate in special projects as they arise |
| Requirements |
1) CA designation 2) Minimum 3 – 5 years of work experience from a public accounting firm with minimum 2 years in an accounting policy position (financial services organization preferred) 3) Experience in managing or mentoring staff 4) Expertise in US GAAP or IFRS
5) In-depth knowledge of Canadian GAAP 6) Knowledge of financial regulatory requirements and public company reporting competencies
7) Excellent organizational skills 8) Superb communication skills (oral and written)
9) Ability to analyze complex business issues within the ever-changing GAAP framework
10) Flexible and organized in order to respond to multiple assignments, deadlines, and evolving situations
11) Ability to exercise and develop professional judgment in assessing risks of
business transactions as well as interpreting accounting pronouncements 12) Ability to make decisions despite uncertainties and unknowns 13) Aptitude to conceptualize issues
14) Analytical thinker, good listener, and a quick learner 15) Ability to grasp technical details and determine the macro-level issues 16) Ability to collaborate with Finance and other colleagues throughout the company 17) Motivated as well as achievement and excellence driven
