About our client
Our client is a specialized fund management company, focusing primarily on infrastructure and private equity asset classes. The company has experienced significant growth and now has over $140B worth of total assets under management.
Position Location
Associate Director of Finance Toronto, ON
Salary Reports to
$170K – $180K Division Director, Americas
Responsibilities
1) Manage a team Canadian funds division
2) Ensure integrity and completeness of financial records, including transaction processing, reconciliations and the establishment of accounting processes and policies
3) Maintain accounting records for corporate entities including preparation and review of financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, supporting schedules and detail analyses
4) Prepare entity consolidating financial statements to include preparation and posting of general ledger journal entries
5) Manage the relationship with the finance teams of the assets to ensure that they provide the necessary information on a timely basis
6) Prepare annual and quarterly financial reports, finance documents to be lodged with the Toronto Stock Exchange, and liaise with external auditors
7) Manage debt facilities including ongoing compliance with facility covenants and manage relationships with debt facility providers
8) Report (monthly) to the board
9) Provide general accounting support to the business including responses to ad hoc requests
10) Prepare tax calculations, maintain tax records and liaise with tax advisers
11) Manage and execute the conversion from Canadian GAAP to IFRS for the Funds
12) Lead the financial and tax aspects of the conversion of the listed fund from a trust to a corporation under the SIFT rules
13) Manage the Bill 198 program including documentation and testing of internal controls at the fund and controlled assets
14) Identify, research and resolve technical accounting issues
15) Perform cash flow forecasting and manage excess cash
16) Develop annual budgets and quarterly reforecast
17) Participate in capital raisings and acquisitions including preparation of finance section of prospectus and settlement of acquisitions
18) Handle distribution payments and liaison with registry service provider
19) Prepare finance related board papers and attendance at board meetings
20) Participate in accounting for business transactions, including asset realisations, asset acquisitions and distributions to investors
21) Calculate base and performance fees
22) Handle movement of cash within the investment vehicles’ entities
23) Manage draw downs from investors
24) Provide annual financial statements and tax for the fund management entities
25) Work closely with the CEO and CFO of the funds he/she is supporting to provide close finance support to the management team of the funds
Requirements
1) Degree in Accounting with postgraduate accounting qualification (CA or equivalent)
2) 10+ years post qualified accounting experience (CA + 10 years) and Big 4 Assurance services experience preferred
3) Experience in financial services and/or commerce including exposure to statutory reporting and tax
4) Good leadership skills
5) Willingness to accept duties and delegate tasks as appropriate
6) Superb interpersonal skills
7) Ability to interact with and influence all levels of staff, including senior management in both the funds business and the Finance Division
8) Ability to build constructive relationships with external parties (eg, asset finance teams, external auditors)
9) Strong client orientation and customer service ethics
10) Excellent technical specialist skills with good technical accounting knowledge, including exposure to tax and financial accounting
11) Ability to present/explain technical subjects to senior executives/Board of Directors
12) Well organized, self starter who can manage a range of competing priorities and projects
13) High level of energy, commitment and flexibility as well as good attention to detail
14) Team player with good communication and influencing skills
15) Ability to handle on-going change in business
16) Comfortable with tackling new concepts
