About our client
Our client is a leading financial service institution.
Position Location
Controller Torrance, CA
Salary Reports to
$100K – $125K Chief Finance Officer
Responsibilities
1) Manage and administer the overall functions of Accounting Department
2) Direct the development and management of the accounting systems, practices and procedures within the bank to conform to GAAP and reflect operating costs, budgets and profits
3) Manager the Accounting Department
4) Develop and maintain the financial accounting systems to address and support the company’s goals and reporting requirements
5) Direct and monitor the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets and reports required by regulatory agencies to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met
6) Supervise employees to perform financial reporting, accounting, tax, billing, collections, payroll and budgeting duties
7) Conduct and coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes
8) Monitor financial activities and details such as reserve levels to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met
9) Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance and non-organizational accounting personnel in order to facilitate financial activities
10) Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives and current accounting standards
11) Train and develop the staff to improve job skills, efficiency and productivity
12) Allocate and manage the resources and manpower within Accounting Department
13) Conduct annual staff performance interviews for training and development purposes
14) Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting staff as well as recommend and implement personnel actions such as promotions and dismissals
15) Improve the department’s productivity and efficiency for effective expense control
16) Perform related duties, as required, for the training and development purposes
17) Comply with and ensure that all staff under supervision complies with all applicable company policies and procedures as well as governing laws and regulations
18) Perform all assigned duties under company compliance programs and related laws & regulations
19) Complete all mandatory training on related company and BSA compliances as well as other laws and regulations as assigned in a timely manner
Requirements
1) Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (MBA is a plus)
2) 10+ years of extensive finance and/or accounting experience with a history of progressive duties within a financial service institute preferred
3) 5+ years of supervisory or managerial experience
4) CPA or equivalent designation preferred
5) Proficient in accounting policies and procedures, GAAP and FASB & Banking Regulations
6) Understanding of retail banking, real estate finance and commercial lending
7) Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
8) Leadership skills and the ability to work cross-functionally
