| Responsibilities |
1) Lead civil/structural engineer for multiple, concurrent high voltage substation projects 2) Oversee others in the performance of engineering calculations and studies/review results 3) Work with subcontractors, other MSE staff engineers and designers to perform all aspects of civil and structural engineering calculations and designs for substations 4) Develop Finite Element structural models of structures, and other steel design calculations such as connections and anchor rods 5) Work with designers to develop structure design and fabrication drawings 6) Develop calculations for reinforced concrete foundations, and work with designers to develop foundation design drawings 7) Work with designers to develop site-work drawings including embankment preparation, drainage, and erosion control details 8) Coordinate design issues with clients and vendors, including attendance at meetings and conferences 9) Assure that all engineering documents and records are properly maintained 10) Coordinate with purchasing and quality control personnel 11) Provide engineering specifications and other information required by purchasing to procure equipment 12) Review vendor submittals 13) Maintain and comply with the relevant sections of the MSE ISO 9001 quality system 14) Coordinate with contract administrative personnel to assure client requirements are met 15) Participate in an annual performance review 16) Participate in developments of less experienced engineers and designers 17) Implement all MSE policies, procedures, standards, and specifications |
| Requirements |
1) BS in Civil Engineering. 2) Have a California PE or SE license. Alternatively, willingness to obtain a California PE or SE within 6-12 months of hire 3) Ability and willingness to get licensed as a PE in other states as needed 4) Experience designing steel structures and reinforced concrete foundations 5) Familiarity with recent AISC, ACI, and IBC codes 6) 5 years minimum design experience as civil engineer 7) 5 Years Experience in at least two of the following areas: • Foundation Design • Structural Steel Design • Transmission Level Substations (69 kV – 500 kV) • Substation Project management experience preferred 8) Experience in the following software programs: • Microsoft Word – intermediate • Microsoft Excel – intermediate • RISA or other Structural Analysis/Design Software - intermediate • AutoCAD r14 or 2000 – basic • Microsoft Outlook – basic • MathCAD – intermediate • Microsoft Project – basic 9) Preferred, but not essential: • SE license • Experience designing electrical substation structures and foundations • Some site work design experience (earthwork, culverts, retaining walls, etc.) • Some building design / rehab experience 10) Willingness to travel. Travel level is typically 10%. 11) Good written and verbal communications skills are a must. 12) Capable of executing all civil/structural tasks for substations with no supervision. 13) Ability to work well with others 14) Highly motivated and independent 15) Effective communicator, get along well with others, not afraid to use the phone 16) Ability and willingness to work on fast-paced projects |
