| Responsibilities |
1) Ensure library bids and Standard Activity Codes are utilized 2) Learn the OST Program and become proficient in take-offs 3) Ensure standard checklists are used to properly reduce the financial risks to the company 4) Participate in project field visits to learn and better understand the project site conditions for purposes of bidding 5) Conduct field visits to existing projects in order to gain an education/understanding on the actual field performance of the company 6) Ensure the accurate and correct calculation of the bid costs (should be realistic and well-thought out) 7) Study the plans, specs and addenda 8) Take good notes, highlight the specs and color in pertinent information on the plans 9) Practice good time management 10) Schedule the bid work after the specs and plans are read 11) Monitor progress during the bid 12) Ensure the physical process and picture of how the work is being constructed, step by step and calculate costs based on realistic construction methods 13) Promote innovations in the bid approach 14) Ensure the figures are compared with the historical data from past projects after the bid productions and costs have been calculated 15) Identify gambles or proposed risks to be taken, summarize and present to the Plant Manager for approval 16) Portray a clear picture of the risks or advantages to facilitate proper decisions 17) Include the conditions and exclusions only if they are pertinent and applicable to the proposal 18) Make sure bid documents are closely read and filled out well in advance of the bid date 19) Think of, and explore, pricing strategies to maximize company profits and minimize any losses during the construction of the project 20) Analyze the gross profit differentials that could result from the final project quantities or changes that are predicted 21) Ensure final unit costs are always calculated 22) Obtain a minimum of three quotes for each purchase item when developing MSR costs (materials, subs, and rentals) 23) Solicit subcontractors and vendors early in the bid process so there is ample time to obtain enough quotes 24) Ensure bid checking is performed vigorously 25) Use the Standard Checklists, in conjunction with the Bid Specific check list to mitigate the company’s financial risks 26) Develop a list of bid conditions and exclusions to be submitted with the private bids |
| Requirements |
1) 5 years of experience in construction and estimating. 2) Basic understanding of engineering and cost tracking systems 3) Ability to recognize construction fabrication, relative crews and activity code to initiate estimating of labor and equipment 4) Ability to fully estimate the Materials, Subcontractors and Rental (MSR) cost for a bid 5) Ability to develop a project schedule and perform an equipment time span 6) Proficiency in MS Office/ Windows 2000, Primavera, HCSS JDE ERP, Relevant Application Modules 7) Ability to lead estimating effort on bids of $2M or greater |
