About our client
Our client has been providing the highest quality processed meat products to customers in Europe and North America over the past century. The company’s customers include many North American supermarkets, restaurants, fast food chains and food retailers.
Position Location
Senior R&D Specialist Ontario
Salary Reports to
Commensurate with experience Management
Responsibilities
1) Oversee the development, formulation and establishment of product specifications, including test runs and trials while overseeing the application process for government approval
2) Create new products or make amendments to existing products to meet customer and sales department needs while adhering to the corporate goals
3) Help develop and maintain policies and procedures for the research and development department to meet legislative, corporate and customer standards and regulations
4) Assess cost reduction opportunities in the plant through labour, formulation and proposed process changes
5) Interact with internal departments, external vendors and customers relating to product development
6) Provide information to apply for government grants or other financial assistance
7) Act as a technical resource to peers in the R&D department and assume a leadership role
8) Implement and maintain the R&D MS Project Management Systems
Requirements
1) Food science engineering degree
2) Minimum 5-10 years meat industry experience combined with a working knowledge of government regulations
3) Proven leadership ability
4) Excellent communication (verbal and written) and “selling” skills
5) Demonstrated leadership, analytical, planning, organizational and interpersonal skills
6) Excellent computing skills, including Word, Excel & PowerPoint
7) Working experience with meat processing/packaging equipment
