About our client
Our client is a wholesale producer of meat and poultry products for the food service segment. The company has been in operation for more than 50 years and has over $50M in annual sales.
Position Location
Seafood/Produce Specialist/Buyer Nearest Metro City: Indianapolis, IN
Salary Reports to
Highly competitive package, commensurate with experience Management
Responsibilities
1) Work under the guidance of the Purchasing Director
2) Ensure that purchasing decisions align with overall goals of the organization
3) Source new items (as needed)
4) Obtain competitive bids for new items and evaluate bids including cost comparisons
5) Maintain expertise in seafood and other produce as well as save money
6) Obtain competitive bids on changes to existing product design and packaging
7) Establish, monitor and update re-order points to ensure consistent flow of items during periods of peaks and lows (all year)
8) Manage orders for new and existing products executed on a timely basis
9) Coordinate shipments to meet company and departmental deadlines
10) Participate in planning meetings with various departments on such things as new products, discontinued products, out of stock items, changes in distribution or packaging of a product
11) Support Operations Department through ongoing communication regarding how items are sold and solve any supplier’s problem at the store level (such as quality and service issues), potential shortages in the market and discontinued items
12) Maintain vendor communication through phone contact, regular meetings or e-mail
13) Make value-added purchasing decisions quickly
14) Keep abreast of commodity markets and take advantage of them
15) Establish working relationships and interact effectively with a wide range of people
16) Make sales calls
17) Educate and train existing customer base with varied products
Requirements
1) Degree (4 year)
2) Minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in purchasing refrigerated food service products and distribution with expertise in seafood and produce sales
3) Expertise in MS Office and excellent communication skills across all levels with high business acumen, personal integrity and maturity
