| Responsibilities |
1) Manage the day-to-day operations of the Manufacturing Department 2) Lead the staff to meet and exceed the company’s performance metrics, quality and customer satisfaction standards within a unionized environment 3) Implement Lean Manufacturing strategies to improve the productivity, quality and efficiency of the manufacturing processes 4) Create an ongoing staff development program increasing capabilities and productivity of all staff 5) Ensure successful daily production and packing of more than 400 baked products 6) Manage the manufacturing and packing operations of all baking products, leading 200 staff and 5 managers 7) Deliver and exceed performance metrics in quality, customer service, costs, inventory management and new product introductions 8) Lead best practices and quality initiatives in the manufacturing and packing departments 9) Increase value of existing assets while improving quality and customer service 10) Act as the custodian and advocate of the brand of baking products and assume responsibility for their quality 11) Lead and develop a high performing team to drive customer focus, quality focus and continuous improvement 12) Ensure that proper procedures and practice, documentation, training and audits are in place 13) Ensure adherence to procedures, leading to consistent, high quality of the products and food safety including the well-being of the employees 14) Create an environment of continuous improvement for the daily operations of the Manufacturing Department 15) Lead the evaluation of the effectiveness of processes 16) Ensure that inefficiencies are addressed and daily issues resolved 17) Manage 5 – 7 direct reports and delegate key responsibilities to them in the supervision of the employees and ensure they have the capabilities to do so effectively 18) Lead the performance management process for all direct reports and their staff 19) Manage, analyze, create reports and develop recommendations of the key metrics of the department 20) Resolve cross-departmental issues in partnership with people from the customer service, distribution, quality assurance, finance, R&D and sales departments 21) Develop the annual departmental budget 22) Lead the staffing, development and recruiting of all staff within the bakery production, packing and facilities departments 23) Manage the facilities and engineering function 24) Coordinate HACCP team activities, including audits, training, investigations and reports 25) Manage the training and development plans for all staff to strengthen their capabilities and improve quality and productivity 26) Analyze the effectiveness of the department, in partnership with the VP of R& D and Manufacturing Operations 27) Create initiatives to increase efficiency and productivity of staff, technology and the overall operations based on the analysis of data 28) Ensure corrective measures are taken if an employee does not perform 29) Manage the resolution of work related problems within the department and take disciplinary action 30) Participate in senior management meetings focused on the success of company, not limited to the tasks of the Plant Manager 31) Lead in highly effective employee communications in a multi-language and multi-cultural environment, creating engaged, motivated employees whose commitment to company and its products enhance the success of the organization |
| Requirements |
1) BA/BS degree (MA/MBA a plus) 2) 5+ years of experience in senior manufacturing roles with an additional 5 – 7 years experience in operations 3) 10+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment 4) Experience in budgeting and P&L as well as proven success in improving results through management and development of staff 5) Knowledge of baking process technology a plus 6) Record of successfully implementing Lean/Six Sigma manufacturing initiatives and in developing direct reports to increase team’s productivity and capabilities 7) Excellent leadership, project management, organizational and interpersonal skills with a hands-on management style 8) Good analytical and good computer skills (including MS Office) 9) Strong interpersonal and communications skills (proficiency in Spanish a plus) 10) Ability to process high volumes of information and manage multiple priorities in a timely manner with precision and attention to detail 11) Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends 12) Organized, result-oriented individual with strong customer focus with the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment |
