About our client
Our client is a privately owned baked goods manufacturer. They have been in operation for more than 10 years.

Salary Reports to

Responsibilities
1) Ensure the proper functioning of the QA Department including quality, regulatory requirements and food safety
2) Manage and lead quality system programs that will ensure compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements
3) Write, implement, and review SOPs and SSOPs
4) Research quality issues by performing root cause analysis with quality issues and adjust the QA program (as needed) to prevent reoccurrence
5) Run microbiological program and ensure compliance to Sanitation Performance Standards (SPS)
6) Provide a summary of the results to QA Director on a weekly basis
7) Manage and change the HACCP programs as necessary
8) Maintain the raw materials and finished products testing programs and submit as needed for analysis
9) Monitor and enforce GMPs and good hygiene and housekeeping practices
10) Provide support on any related product withdrawals, recalls or market recoveries
11) Manage a program that tracks incidents related to food safety, both frequency and severity
12) Stop production and/or place product or ingredients on hold when an immediate food safety risk or non-compliance to specification is identified.
13) Maintain hold log and ensure all releases or destruction of product is properly recorded
14) Support Operations in embedding systemic corrective and preventative actions regarding internal and third party audit deficiencies
15) Assist in implementing SQF Level 3 certification
16) Manage SQF programs and work with the QA Crew Leader to ensure the proper skills development of QC technicians
17) Develop and maintain accurate records
18) Incorporate and maintain procedures in document control program
19) Ensure that all products produced at the company are safe for consumption and conform to the intended product design
20) Oversee food security policy/program to ensure that food security preventative measures are being implemented and routinely audited regarding the manufacturing, handling and storage of all food ingredients as well as finished goods
21) Manage random sampling program based upon statistical analysis
22) Lead activities that empower, engage and involve operators with the information and tools for continuous improvement in facility manufacturing processes
23) Manage and train on use of toolboxes (SPC, 6 Sigma, lean, etc.) to measure and control quality systems and processes for continuous improvement
24) Support Operations in achieving continuous improvement targets and goals in each plant
25) Maintain measurement systems, process control programs and auditing processes, as tools to verify that customer expectations are being met
26) Compile and review data for trends and deviations followed by reporting the execution of corrective and preventative measures
27) Ensure training on Pest control, Quality, Food safety, HACCP, Food Security, cGMP and Continuous Improvement
28) Train plant personnel on how to conduct self-audits of their own quality systems, new product launches or revisions to existing products
29) Assist with new products providing information on areas involving regulatory compliance or food safety
30) Lead the facility in the adoption and disciplined use of a clearly defined, well-documented and systematic commercialization process for implementing change into plant processes
31) Support translation of product specifications to appropriate manufacturing documentation
32) Execute line trials and process capability evaluations effectively
33) Support the products transition from R&D pilot to commercial manufacturing through continuous quality improvement projects in partnership with all departments
34) Initiate, track and verify effectiveness of quality and food safety programs through monthly inspections and sanitation and HACCP reviews
35) Initiate improvement opportunities based off audit findings
36) Provide upper management with food science/food safety advice
37) Lead and support seamless exchange of technical and product information between and among unit operations in a manufacturing process
38) Give channel customer feedback to appropriate levels on the plant floor
39) Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers and with internal personnel
40) Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
1) BS in Food Science or other scientific field
2) Minimum 5 years of QA experience and 3 years of supervisory/management experience
3) Understanding of food safety science and principles including microbiological food safety risks and corrective actions
4) HACCP and SQF certification (Six Sigma and ASQ certification a plus)
5) Experience in chemical, physical and microbiological food testing
6) Working knowledge of food laws as well as SPC techniques and their application to process control
7) Expertise in Six Sigma and Lean
8) Proficient in MS Office
9) Excellent communication skills (Spanish a plus)
10) Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions
11) Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization as well as third party agencies and regulatory officials
